SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team dropped a dual match 7-2 against No. 12 Kenyon College, while the women fell 6-3 on Saturday, February 19 at the Cleveland Skating Club.
With the loss, the Spartans dropped to 1-3 on the season in dual matches. The women's squad dropped to 3-2.
On the men's side, Case picked up points at fourth singles and second doubles against the Lords. At the four spot, Rohan Patel (Cincinnati, OH/Sycamore) defeated Kenyon's Kevin Ye in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4 to improve to 5-8 overall in singles matches. The duo of Sean Carr (Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington) and Kyle Gerber (Columbus, OH/St. Charles Prep) teamed up to defeat Paul Burgin and Jared Goldstein by a score of 8-4 to secure the Spartans' other point.
For the women, sophomore Erika Lim (Fullerton, CA/Fullerton Union) was a winner at first singles with a 6-2, 6-3 decision over Prita Kidder. Freshman Bianca Patel (Cincinnati, OH/Sycamore) also took her match at fourth singles, defeating Kenyon's Carly Bond in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. The Spartans picked up another point in doubles action, where Patel and another freshman, Evelyn Qi (Tampa, FL/C.Leon King), knocked off Bond and Erin Ivanoff by a score of 8-3.
The men's team will be back in action on Saturday, February 26 against Hope College (MI) and Kalamazoo College (MI) in a doubleheader which will begin at 10:00 a.m. The women's squad will play next against Youngstown State University on Friday, February 25 in a dual match at 7:00 p.m.
