CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team dropped just seven total points in a 9-0 sweep of Ursuline College at the Carlton Courts on Thursday, April 14. With the win, the Spartans improved to 8-6 on the season in dual match play.
Next up for Case will be the University Athletic Association Championship, hosted by Washington University (MO) from Friday, April 22 through Sunday, April 24. Match times are yet to be determined.
At first singles, sophomore Erika Lim (Fullerton, CA/Fullerton Union) took down Betsy Edwards 6-0, 6-1 and was followed by a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at the two spot by freshman Kara Richardson (Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington). Freshman Bianca Patel (Cincinnati, OH/Sycamore) followed with a 6-0, 6-2 win a third singles. The Spartans then got two 6-0, 6-0 victories from sophomore Kathleen Evers (Cincinnati, OH/Mount Notre Dame) and classmate Evelyn Qi (Tampa, Fl/C. Leon King) at the four and five spots, respectively. Case also picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win at sixth singles from Sveta Vilano.
In doubles play, the Spartans outmatched Ursuline with three victories and dropped just two of 26 points. Lim and Evers teamed up for an 8-0 win at first doubles, while Richardson and Patel won at second doubles by the same score. Qi and Vilano were also able to lock up an 8-2 win at the third position.
