MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team dropped to 7-6 overall in dual match play following a tight, 5-4 loss at Allegheny College on Wednesday, April 13 indoors at the David V. Wise Center. The Spartans led 4-2 but were unable to score the deciding point as the Gators rallied to capture the final three singles matches.
The Spartans are right back in action on Thursday, April 14 in their 2010-11 home finale versus Ursuline College at 4:00 p.m. at the Carlton Courts.
Case took a 2-1 lead after doubles play, as the No. 1 duo of sophomores Erika Lim (Fullerton, CA/Fullerton Union) and Emily Pham (Mason, OH/William Mason) were winners by a count of 8-4. Freshman Kara Richardson (Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington) and sophomore Kat Evers (Cincinnati, OH/Mount Notre Dame) were the final doubles pair on the court and came away with an 8-2 win at No. 2.
After Allegheny (9-5)won the first singles match at No. 4, Case came back with victories at No. 3 and No. 2 from Richardson and Pham. However, the Gators were able to rally with points at No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 to score the 5-4 upset.
Following tomorrow's match with Ursuline, the Spartans are idle until the 2011 University Athletic Association Championship on Saturday-Sunday, April 22-24 in St. Louis, Missouri.
