Following Winter Break and a training trip to Florida, the Case Western Reserve University swimming and diving teams will be back in the pool this weekend, when the team hosts the SUNY-Geneseo Knights at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 18th.
The Spartan men will enter the meet with an overall record of 3-2 following their first-place finish at the Wooster Invitational on December 7th. The women stand at 4-1 for the season and are also coming off of a first-place finish at the Wooster Invitational.
Sophomore Calvin Tecson led the Spartan men as he placed first in the 50-yard freestyle with a school-record time of 20.77. That time bests the previous school record of 20.79 set back in 2007 by former Spartan John Erickson. In addition, he was a member of the 200-yard medley relay team that finished first with a school-record time of 1:32.35, besting the previous record of 1:32.98 set during the 2013 UAA Championships. Tecson also added a second-place finish in the 100-yard individual medley (53.01) and a sixth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (52.07).
Junior Caitlyn VonFeldt recorded a NCAA 'B' cut time as she led the Spartan women at the Wooster Invite. She placed first in the 100-yard backstroke with a 'B' cut time of 56.30. In addition, VonFeldt claimed the title in the 200-yard backstroke (2:03.68) and placed second in the 50-yard freestyle (24.30).
The SUNY-Geneseo men will enter the meet with a 3-2 record, while the women stand at 4-1. Both are coming off of losses against NCAA Division I Florida Atlantic.
This will be the third meeting between the two schools during the Coach Milliken era. The Spartan men and women both fell to the Knights last season in Geneseo, New York.
Full results and a recap will be posted to athletics.case.edu following the completion of competition on Saturday.
