The Case Western Reserve University swimming and diving teams each picked up victories in their second dual meet of the 2019-20 season, with the men defeating Ashland University 196-102, and the women claiming a 178-119 victory.
Both Spartan squads raised their season ledger to 1-1, while the Ashland men and women each dropped to 0-1 on the season.
Junior Cassiel Yuzik, junior Will McDonald and sophomore Calvin Tecson each won two individual events for CWRU on Saturday. Yuzik earned wins in the one-meter dive (251.77) and the three-meter dive (228.83). McDonald won the 100-yard backstroke (54.96) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:59.64), while Tecson claimed victories in the 50-yard freestyle (21.80) and the 100-yard freestyle (48.47). McDonald and Tecson also teamed with first-year Patrick Cavanaugh and first-year Anatole Borisov in the 400-yard medley relay to win the event with a time of 3:34.92. The men's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Tecson, Borsiov, first-year Andrew Smith and sophomore Nicholas Schoenig won the event with a time of 3:14.15.
Borsiov also claimed a win in the 100-yard butterfly with a time 53.76, while Andrew Smith won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:46.75. In addition, sophomore Michael Clough claimed the win in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:59.61.
Sophomore Kelly Moton and first-year Abby Halsdorfer paced the Spartan women on Saturday. Moton earned victories in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.12) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:31.78), while Halsdorfer won the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:48.20) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:16.82). The women's 400-yard freestyle relay team of junior Caitlyn VonFeldt, sophomore Daniella Rupert, sophomore Sarah Krueger and first-year Maria Pritchett won the event with a time of 3:43.67.
VonFeldt also added a win in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.02), while Krueger claimed a win in the 100-yard freestyle (55.01). Also claiming victories on Saturday for the CWRU women were Pritchett in the 400-yard individual medley (4:44.22), senior Olivia Picchione in the 200-yard butterfly (2:16.15) and sophomore Anna Smith in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.29).
Case Western Reserve will be back in action next weekend, facing John Carroll University in the Veale Natatorium on Saturday, November 9th at 1:00 p.m.
