The Case Western Reserve University men's swimming and diving team picked up a 179-119 victory over Ohio Northern University on Saturday, while the women's squad defeated ONU 243-54 and defeated NCAA Division II program Hillsdale College 204-90.
The win raised the men's record to 6-2 on the season, while the women moved to 7-2 in dual meet action this season.
The women claimed 12 of the 16 events on Saturday, including a sweep of the relays. The 200-yard medley relay team of senior Suhan Mestha, senior Alli Drohosky, sophomore Caitlyn VonFeldt and freshman Anna Smith won the event with a mark of 1:50.84, while Mestha, VonFeldt, freshman Sarah Krueger and freshman Daniella Rupert ended the women's portion of the meet with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:40.90.
Three different Spartan women won a pair of individual events, with Mestha claiming first in the 50-yard freestyle (24.67) and in the 100-yard freestyle (54.07), VonFeldt claiming the win in both the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.16) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:10.37), and freshman Hailey Seibert sweeping the diving events with a score of 189.25 in the one-meter dive and 188.90 in the three-meter dive.
Adding wins on Saturday for the women were Krueger in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:02.11), Rupert in the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.56), Smith in the 100-yard butterfly (59.86) and junior Olivia Picchione in the 200-yard individual medley (2:15.74).
The CWRU men picked up first-place finishes in 11 of the 16 events during the meet, including a sweep of the diving events. Sophomore Cassiel Yuzik finished first in the one-meter dive with a score of 215.70 and then won the three-meter dive with a score of 226.45.
Freshman Neil Wible finished first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.42) and the 100-yard freestyle (48.44), while senior Brody Schmidt won the 500-yard freestyle (4:52.17) and senior Keith Erichsen claimed the title in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:03.64).
In addition, freshman Nicholas Schoenig won the 100-yard backstroke (52.99), sophomore Jakob Woerner won the 200-yard butterfly (1:57.51), freshman Calvin Tecson won the 50-yard freestyle (22.12), sophomore Will McDonald won the 200-yard backstroke (1:57.66) and sophomore Sean Twomey won the 200-yard individual medley (1:59.07).
The Spartans will return home next Friday for their final home-dual meet of the season. CWRU will host Notre Dame College on Senior Night in the Veale Natatorium on Friday, February 1st for a 6:00 p.m. meet.
