The Case Western Reserve University swimming and diving teams competed in a dual meet at Alumni Pool in Geneseo, New York on Monday afternoon, with the men and women both falling to the SUNY-Geneseo Knights.
The Spartan men and women each stand at 5-2 in dual meets this season, following Monday's meet.
Sophomore Will McDonald headlined the men's performances, as McDonald won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 54.70 and claimed the title in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:56.73.
In addition, McDonald teamed with sophomore Jonathan Liu, sophomore Kyle Barclay and freshman Calvin Tecson to place second in the 400-yard medley relay with a time 3:37.92. The men's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Tecson, senior Brody Schmidt, freshman Alec Johnson and freshman Ryan Gilbert added a second-place finish with a time of 1:28.41.
Other first-place finishers for the Spartan men included Schmidt in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:12.66), freshman Neil Wible in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.94) and sophomore Sean Twomey in the 400-yard individual medley (4:14.52).
For the women, senior Suhan Mestha won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.27. Junior Olivia Picchione claimed a first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:12.19 and also added a first-place finish in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:48.65. In addition, freshman Anna Smith finished first in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.06).
Mestha also teamed with senior Bhavya Kumaran, sophomore Caitlyn VonFeldt and freshman Daniella Rupert to win the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:40.77. The women's 400-yard medley relay team of Mestha, senior Alli Drohosky, VonFeldt and Smith earned a second-place finish with a time of 4:04.76.
The Spartans will continue competition on the road next weekend as they travel to Ada, Ohio to face Ohio Northern University and Hillsdale College on Saturday, January 26th at 1:00 p.m.
