The Case Western Reserve University swimming and diving teams each picked up victories in their second home meet of the 2018-19 season, with the men defeating Oberlin College 222-63, and the women claiming a 238-47 victory.
Both Spartan squads raised their season ledger to 2-1, while the Oberlin men and women each dropped to 0-1 on the season.
Senior Suhan Mestha and sophomore Caitlyn VonFeldt each won two individual events for CWRU on Saturday. Mestha claimed victories in the 50-yard freestyle (24.44) and the 100-yard freestyle (53.60), while VonFeldt won the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.23) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:09.95). The 400-yard medley relay team of Mestha, VonFeldt, senior Alli Drohosky and freshman Anna Smith added a win in the event with a time of 3:59.49, while women's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Mestha, junior Olivia Picchione, freshman Daniella Rupert and freshman Sarah Krueger won the event with a mark of 3:39.15.
Drohosky also claimed a win in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:02.91, while Krueger won the 200-yard butterfly (2:15.05) and Olivia Picchione won the 100-yard butterfly (59.79). Other individual victories for the Spartan women were senior Alexa Simoneau 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.78), freshman Kate Ptashnik in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:14.46), sophomore Caroline Dudenhoeffer in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:31.01), sophomore Sophia Vaccaro in the 500-yard freestyle (5:28.59) and freshman Kelly Moton in the 200-yard individual medley (2:17.33).
Junior Adi Alkalay also added wins in the one-meter dive (182.62 points) and the three-meter dive (172.87 points).
Freshman Neil Wible and freshman Nicholas Schoenig paced the Spartan men on Saturday. Wible won the 50-yard freestyle (22.27) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:53.77), while Schoenig claimed victories in the 100-yard backstroke (54.74) and the 100-yard butterfly (53.39).Wible also teamed with sophomore Jakob Woerner, sophomore Jonathan Liu and sophomore Will McDonald in the 400-yard medley relay to win the event with a time of 3:32.87. In addition, Wible, freshman Alec Johnson, freshman Ryan Gilbert and freshman Calvin Tecson won the 400-yard freestyle relay with a mark of 3:13.74.
McDonald also added a win in the 200-yard backstroke (1:56.17), while Tecson claimed a win in the 100-yard freestyle (48.13). Also claimed victories on Saturday for the CWRU men were Woerner in the 200-yard butterfly (1:57.61), senior Brody Schmidt in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:57.34) and senior Keith Erichsen in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.95).
Sophomore Mark Fox added wins in the one-meter dive (226.05 points) and the three-meter dive (191.85 points).
CWRU will be off from competition next weekend, before traveling to Rochester, New York for a quad meet against the University of Rochester (N.Y.), Gannon University and Grove City College on Friday, November 16th and Saturday, November 17th. Diving events will take place on Friday, while swimming events will take place on Saturday.
