The Case Western Reserve University swimming and diving teams competed in a dual meet in Cleveland, Ohio on Saturday afternoon, with the men and women both falling to Carnegie Mellon University.
The Spartan men and women each stand at 1-1 in dual meets this season, following Saturday's meet.
Freshman Daniella Rupert headlined the women's performers, winning the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.94 and winning the 100-yard freestyle with a mark of 54.37. In addition, Rupert was a member of the 200-freestyle relay with freshman Sarah Krueger, freshman Emili Toppari and freshman Madilyn Fogle that won the event with a time of 1:39.92. Krueger and Fogle also teamed with senior Alli Drohosky and freshman Jackie Ngu to finish first in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:49.98.
Other top-finishes for the Spartan women included Drohosky in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.19), junior Olivia Picchione in the 200-yard butterfly (2:10.18), sophomore Caitlyn VonFeldt in the 100-yard backstroke (59.35) and freshman Anna Smith in the 100-yard butterfly (58.67).
For the men, freshman Neil Wible won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.08. The men's 200-yard medley relay team of Wible, freshman Nicholas Schoenig, freshman Michael Schiml and freshman Calvin Tecson earned a second-place finish with a mark of 1:38.24, while the men's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Wible, Tecson, freshman Ryan Gilbert and freshman Alec Johnson placed second in the event with a time of 1:27.12.
The Spartans will return to action next weekend, as they host Oberlin College at 1:00 p.m. in the Veale Natatorium on Saturday, November 3rd.
