The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's swimming and diving teams picked up a 194-106 victory over Ohio Northern University on Saturday, while the women's squad defeated ONU 215-84 and defeated NCAA Division II program Hillsdale College 184-107.
The win raised the men's record to 7-2 on the season, while the women moved to 8-2 in dual meet action this season.
The men claimed 11 of the 16 events on Saturday, including a sweep of the relays. The 400-yard medley relay team of freshman Will McDonald, senior John Kilbane, senior Oliver Hudgins and senior Drew Hamilton won the event with a mark of 3:35.61, while Hudgins, Hamilton, junior Brody Schmidt and senior John Tomko ended the meet with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:28.86.
Two different Spartan men won a pair of individual events, with Hudgins finishing first in the 50-yard freestyle (22.40) and the 100-yard butterfly (53.01), and freshman Sean Twomey claiming the win in both the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.07) and the 400-yard individual medley (4:16.24).
Adding wins on Saturday for the men were junior Keith Erichsen in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:03.99), senior Logan Smith in the 200-yard butterfly (2:00.17), Tomko in the 100-yard freestyle (49.56), Schmidt in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:14.51) and Hamilton in the 500-yard freestyle (4:50.94).
The CWRU women picked up first-place finishes in nine of the 16 events during the meet, including a sweep of the diving events. Senior Brooke Hortness finished first in the one-meter dive with a score of 192.45 and then won the three-meter dive with a score of 199.70.
Junior Suhan Mestha finished first in the 100-yard backstroke (59.18) and the 100-yard freestyle (54.06), while freshman Caitlyn VonFeldt won the 50-yard freestyle (25.54) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:09.91).
In addition, freshman Sophia Vaccaro won the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:13.07 and sophomore Monica Khare won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.15, while the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Mestha, VonFeldt, junior Bhavya Kumaran and senior Inez Moore won the event with a time of 1:41.55.
The Spartans will return home next weekend for their final dual meet of the season. CWRU will welcome Baldwin Wallace University and Ursuline College to the Veale Natatorium on Saturday, February 3rd for a 1:00 p.m. meet.
