The Case Western Reserve University swimming and diving teams split in their season-opening competition on Friday, with the women claiming a 142-101 win over John Carroll University, but the men falling 126-115 against the Blue Streaks.
For the Spartan women, junior Jennifer Eurich won the 100-yard freestyle with a mark of 55.83 second, while also teaming with junior Inez Moore, freshman Julia Ver Voort and freshman Rhiannon Reese to finish first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a mark of 1:41.29. Junior Brooke Hortness added a first place finish in the three-meter dive with a score of 117.15.
Also notching top finishes in events for the Spartan women were sophomore Kelsey Holmberg in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:20.36), sophomore Bhavya Kumaran in the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.83), freshman Olivia Picchione in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.52) and freshman Monica Khare in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.08).
For the men, junior Drew Hamilton won the 200-yard freestyle with a mark of 1:45.20 and the 500-yard freestyle with a mark of 4:51.27.
Other first-place finishes for the CWRU men includes senior David Merriman in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a career-best time of 10:12.90 and junior Aaron Pang in the 100-yard butterfly with a mark of 53.84.
The Spartans will be back in action next weekend, facing Carnegie Mellon University and Allegheny College in the Veale Natatorium on Saturday, October 29th at 1:00 p.m.
