CWRU Swimming Wraps-Up Competition at the Midwest Invitational

A small squad of Case Western Reserve University swimmers finished competition on Saturday at the two-day Midwest Invitational, hosted by the University of Chicago in Chicago, Illinois.

The four Spartan women in action totaled 217 points to help the team finish fourth, while the two CWRU men combined for 61 points for a fifth-place finish.

For the women, junior Emily Boluda finished eighth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:32.48), fifth in the 1,650-yard freestyle (19:21.78) and notched a time of 2:22.24 in the time trials of the 200-yard backstroke.  Sophomore Sophia Hestad placed 10th in the 200-yard freestyle (2:17.44), ninth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:57.30), and 13th in the 100-yard freestyle (1:02.66).  Sophomore Carolyn Manuck added a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley (2:25.48), a fifth-place finish in the 400-yard individual medley (5:13.00) and a mark of 1:08.56 in the 100-yard butterfly time trials.  Rounding out the women's individual performances, sophomore Jenna Krynicki finished fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (25.69 seconds), 10th in the 100-yard butterfly with a career-best time of 1:03.00, and ninth in the 100-yard freestyle with a mark of 56.92 seconds.

The four also combined for times of 4:30.90 in the 400-yard medley relay, 2:05.70 in the 200-yard medley relay, and 4:06.00 in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

For the men, sophomore Stefan Roeseler recorded career-best times in four events with marks of 5:00.31 in the 500-yard freestyle (seventh-place), 1:00.98 in the 100-yard breaststroke (sixth-place), 50.23 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle (seventh-place) and 23.15 seconds in the time trials of the 50-yard freestyle.  Sophomore Tommy Petro added an eighth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (22.96 seconds), a 15th-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (54.99 seconds), and an eighth-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (50.24 seconds).

Case Western Reserve will now turn its attention towards the 2016 University Athletic Association Championships, hosted by the University of Rochester in Webster, New York next week.  Competition at the UAA Championships will begin on Wednesday, February 17th, and continue through Saturday, February 20th.
