Farrell & Mestha Set CWRU Records during Second Day of Wooster Invite

Case Western Reserve University senior Connor Farrell and freshman Suhan Mestha each broke program records to highlight the Spartan performances during the second day of competition at the 2015 Wooster Invitational on Friday night.

Farrell finished first in the men's one-meter dive with a score of 506.25, to best former Spartan Daniel Jacobson's previous school record of 486.5 in the event, set during the 2011 season.  The mark was well above the NCAA qualifying score of 425.

Mestha set a new program-record mark in the women's 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.94 seconds to win the event.  She became the first woman in the program's history to break the 58-second mark in the event, surpassing the previous school record of 58.04, set by Stephanie Campbell in 2012.

The two record-setting performances helped both the CWRU men and women maintain their lead in the team standings after two days of competition at the meet.  The 19th-ranked women have totaled 1,042 points to lead second-place Gannon University (838 points) and third-place Wooster (746 points).  The 16th-ranked men have scored 1,159 points through two days to lead second-place Gannon (830.5 points) and third-place Ohio Northern University (746 points).  A total of 11 women's teams and nine men's teams are in action at the meet.

In addition to the two record-setting performances, sophomore Drew Hamilton record an NCAA 'B' cut in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:03.78 to finish second in the event.  Sophomore Aaron Pang added a third-place finish in the event with a mark of 4:10.92.

Other top-three finishers for the CWRU men on Friday included senior Aaron Tam in the 100-yard butterfly (third, 50.53 seconds), sophomore Oliver Hudgins in the 200-yard freestyle (second, 1:41.31), and the 800-yard freestyle relay team of Hamilton, Tam, Hudgins and junior Andrew Henning (second, 6:52.65).

The CWRU women saw standout performances from both relays on Friday.  The 800-yard freestyle relay team of Mestha, senior Rebecca Pakradooni, freshman Kelsey Holmberg and sophomore Jennifer Eurich won the event with a time of 7:52.33, while the 200-yard medley relay team of freshman Bhavya Kumaran, freshman Alli Drohosky, Pakradooni and Mestha finished second with a time of 1:47.92.  Pakradooni added an individual third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with times of 57.69 seconds in the preliminaries and 58.03 seconds in the finals.

Action at the Wooster Invitational will conclude on Saturday, with preliminaries starting at 10:00 a.m., and finals at 5:00 p.m.
