Spartan Swimming & Diving Teams Combine to Beat Oberlin, Win Cleveland City Tournament Championship

CLEVELAND – The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's swimming & diving teams combined to beat Oberlin College, 341-249, to win the Cleveland City Tournament Championship on Saturday afternoon at Veale Natatorium.

The No. 14 nationally ranked men dominated their portion of the team scoring, 212-84, while the women were outscored, 165-129. The tournament is decided by combined scores.

On the men's side, the Spartans won 14-of-16 events, including both relays.

Individually, senior Nick Clyde (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) was a triple-winner in the 50-yard freestyle (21.95), 400 individual medley (4:23.73) and with the 200 medley relay (1:38.99).

Senior co-captain Sean Nickley (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) and senior Scott McHenry (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) were each double-winners. Nickley won the 100-yard breaststroke (59.53) and 200 breaststroke (2:16.72), while McHenry won the 200 free (1:45.52) and 100 free (48.31).

In diving events, senior Daniel Jacobson (Solon, Ohio/Solon) won on the 1-meter board with 279.75 points and in the 3-meter event with 285.96.

The women won seven events overall and were led by senior co-captain Maggie Dillione (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North), who improved on her NCAA "B" cut in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:07.37.

Sophomore diver Riki Drout (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) swept her two events with 188.85 points on the 1-meter board and 188.20 on the 3-meter.

The Spartans have next weekend off from competition and will return to the pool for a home quad versus Grove City College (Pa.), Kenyon College and Gannon University (Pa.) on Saturday, November 23 at 1:00 p.m.
