CLEVELAND – Despite three individual event wins from junior Sara Tillie (Fallston, Md./Fallston), the Case Western Reserve University women's swimming & diving team was edged, 150-149, by visiting Allegheny College (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon inside the Veale Natatorium. The competition was the first for the Spartans since early December.
With the loss, the Spartans drop to 6-9 overall in duals this season with just two left on the schedule. The win bumps the Gators to 3-4-1.
Tillie won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:58.53 and the 100 free in 55.30. She also claimed victory in the 200 individual medley with a mark of 2:15.15.
Junior captain Maggie Dillione (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) joined Tillie as a multiple event winner with first-place finishes in the 200 butterfly (2:09.47) and 100 fly (58.56).
Other individual wins came from sophomore Brianna Cain (Perry, Ohio/Perry) in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.95) and sophomore Sophia Colevas (Washington, D.C./St. John's College) in the 200 back (2:14.67).
In relay competition, the Spartans opened the afternoon with a first-place time of 4:10.19 in the 400 medley behind the team of freshman Rachael Loek (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South), Cain, freshman Rebecca Pakradooni (Augusta, Ga./Lakeside) and Dillione.
The Spartans conclude the home portion of the 2012-13 schedule next Saturday, January 26 with Seniors' Day versus Ohio Northern University at 1:00 p.m. Prior to the meet, Case Western Reserve will honor its four swimming & diving seniors, including women's student-athlete Krysta Payne (Ligonier, Pa./Ligonier Valley).
