CLEVELAND – A small contingent from the Case Western Reserve University women's swimming & diving team wrapped up the first half of the season at the College Cup Dual Meet Invitational hosted by Division I Cleveland State University on Tuesday inside Robert F. Busbey Natatorium.
The Spartans competed against two NCAA Division I schools in Cleveland State and Canisius College (N.Y.). NCAA Division II Notre Dame College (Ohio) and NCAA Division III John Carroll University completed the field.
Case was victorious versus JCU by a score of 164-72 and versus NDC by a count of 131-107. The Spartans fell to CSU, 197-44, and Canisius, 168.50-73.50.
Freshman Rebecca Pakradooni (Augusta, Ga./Lakeside) turned in a runner-up finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.46. Pakradooni defeated six DI competitors and a duo from DII.
Fresh off of a weekend where she broke school records in the 100-yard and 200-yard butterfly events, junior captain Maggie Dillione (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) placed third behind two DI swimmers in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 55.15. Dillione also placed fourth behind three DI competitors in the 50 free with a time of 25.35.
Sophomore Brianna Cain (Perry, Ohio/Perry) turned in another top performance with a third-place time of 1:11.44 in the in the 100 breaststroke.
The Spartans are now onto winter break training and will not compete again until a dual meet on Saturday, January 19 at Allegheny College (Pa.) at 1:00 p.m.
