SOMERS, Wis. -- Following the opening weekend of the season, the Case Western Reserve University women's swimming & diving team is ranked No. 16 in the first Endless Pools/CollegeSwimming.com Top 25 poll released on Wednesday.
The Spartan women competed versus No. 6 Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.), No. 12 University of Rochester (N.Y.), No. 13 New York University and Brandies University (Mass.) at the University Athletic Association Invitational in Rochester, New York.
The Spartans were led by junior Sara Tillie (Fallston, Md./Fallston), who won three events and finished second in another. Tille touched the wall first in the 200-meter individual medley (2:11.78), the 100 breaststroke (1:10.27) and the 200 breaststroke (2:32.53), while finishing runner-up in the 400 IM in 4:46.08.
The quartet of junior co-captain Maggie Dillione (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North), freshman Alison Thirion (Cortland, Ohio/Warren G. Harding), freshman Rebecca Pakradooni (Martinez, Ga./Lakeside) and senior co-captain Krysta Payne (Ligonier, Pa./Ligioner Valley) led the Spartans to a runner-up finish in the 800 free relay with a time of 8:04.78.
The Spartans return to action this Friday and Saturday, November 2-3, with the opening meets of the Cleveland City Tournament at Veale Natatorium. Day one begins at 7:30 p.m. versus Notre Dame College (Ohio).
