ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Junior Sara Tillie (Fallston, Md./Fallston) won three individual events as the Case Western Reserve University women's swimming & diving team kicked off its 2012-13 campaign with a 1-3 record versus four conference foes at the University Athletic Association Invitational on Friday and Saturday, October 26-27, at the Speegle-Wilbraham Center.
The Spartans defeated Brandeis University (Mass.) by a 296-67, but fell to Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.), 225-143, New York University, 198-169, and host Rochester, 224-146.
Tillie took home individual titles in the 200-yard individual medley (2:11.78), the 100 breaststroke (1:10.27) and the 200 breast (2:32.53). Additionally, the third-year Spartan finished runner-up in the 400 IM with a time of 4:46.08.
In the 800 free relay, the quartet of junior co-captain Maggie Dillione (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North), freshman Alison Thirion (Cortland, Ohio/Warren G. Harding), freshman Rebecca Pakradooni (Martinez, Ga./Lakeside) and senior co-captain Krysta Payne (Ligonier, Pa./Ligioner Valley) finished in the runner-up in 8:04.78.
Several events later, Pakradooni was the third swimmer to touch the wall in the 200 free with a time of 2:01.13.
Of note, Dillione also stopped the clock as the runner-up in both the 200 butterfly (2:10.72) and 100 fly (59.28).
The Spartans return to action next Friday and Saturday, November 2-3, with the opening meets of the Cleveland City Tournament at Veale Natatorium. Day one begins at 7:30 p.m. versus Notre Dame College (Ohio).
