Case Western Reserve University sophomore midfielder Anika Washburn has been selected to the 2019 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III All-Great Lakes Region First Team, while junior defender Bailey George and first-year forward Merry Meyer were each named to the All-Great Lakes Region Second Team. The all-region honors are the first of each of their careers.
Earlier this fall, Washburn was named the University Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Year and earned All-UAA First Team honors, while Meyer earned a spot on the All-UAA Second Team and George earned All-UAA Honorable Mention.
Washburn led the squad with a program-record 33 points on a program-record 14 goals and five assists. She led the UAA in the regular season in both points and goals. Washburn also set a school-record with seven game-winning goals. A 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team selection, Washburn set the program-record for goals and points during the Spartans' 2-0 win over then 12th-ranked Chicago on November 1st.
Meyer finished the regular season tied for first in the UAA with eight assists, and also added one goal for 10 points. Her eight assists in a season currently rank tied for fourth among the program's single-season records.
George played a major role on the Spartans' defense this season, as she has started all 19 games. She helped the team yield opponents to 10 shots and 5 shots on goal per game, and shutout seven opponents during the season.
Case Western Reserve received a NCAA Tournament bid for just the second time in the program's history during the 2019 campaign. The Spartans ended the season with a 13-5-1 record under first-year Head Coach Jen Simonetti. The 13 wins tie a CWRU women's soccer record, while the team's 46 goals set a new program record.
