Washburn Receives Offensive Player of the Year Award; Two More Spartans Garner All-Conference Honors

Led by conference Offensive Player of the Year honoree Anika Washburn, three players from the Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team were named to the All-University Athletic Association women's soccer team, as announced by the conference on Thursday.

Washburn becomes the first player in the program's history to be named UAA Offensive Player of the Year. In addition, Washburn was also named to the All-UAA First Team for the first time in her career.

Washburn, a sophomore midfielder, leads the squad with a program-record 33 points on a program-record 14 goals and five assists. She led the UAA in the regular season in both points and goals. Washburn also set a school-record with seven game-winning goals, which is currently the 11th-most in Division III. A 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team selection, Washburn set the program-record for goals and points during the Spartans' 2-0 win over then 12th-ranked Chicago on November 1st.

In addition, first-year forward Merry Meyer earned a spot on the All-UAA Second Team, while junior defender Bailey George earned All-UAA Honorable Mention honors. The was the first All-UAA honor for Meyer, while George was named to the All-UAA Second Team as a sophomore.

Meyer finished the regular season tied for first in the UAA with eight assists, and also added one goal for 10 points. Her eight assists in a season currently rank tied for fourth among the program's single-season records.

George played a major role on the Spartans' defense this season, as she has started all 18 games. She helped the team yield opponents to 10.2 shots and 5.1 shots on goal per game, and shutout six opponents during the season.

Case Western Reserve finished the 2019 regular season with a 13-5-0 overall record, including a 2-5-0 mark in UAA play. The Spartans received an at-large bid to the NCAA playoff field and will travel to Wheaton, Illinois for the first round of the championships. CWRU will open play this weekend, as they face the College of Wooster on Friday, November 15th at 2:30 p.m. ET.
