CWRU Women’s Soccer to Face Unfamiliar Foes in Non-Conference Clashes

The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team will look to extend its stellar play with a pair of non-conference matches in the coming week. First, the Spartans host Albion College in a mid-week match on Wednesday, September 11th at DiSanto Field at 7:30 p.m. Then, the team travels to Adrian, Michigan to face Adrian College on Sunday, September 15th at 5:00 p.m.

CWRU Spartans (4-0-0)

The Spartans continued their impressive start to the season with two more shutout wins. In the first match, CWRU defeated Hiram College 4-0 at home on Wednesday. Sophomore Anika Washburn and freshmen Aniya Hartzler, Laura Gorjanc, and Johanna Dunkers scored in the second half of the contest.

Traveling to Erie, Pennsylvania on Sunday, CWRU defeated Penn St.-Behrend in a road contest, 3-0. Dunkers opening the scoring in the third minute, and Hartzler added a goal at the end of the first half. Sophomore Christina Hickson finished the trifecta with her second goal of the season.

Albion Britons (3-1-0)

The Britons won their two matches this past weekend, defeating Greenville University 4-0 on Saturday and Manchester (Ind.) University 3-0 on Sunday.

Senior Riley Burnette leads Albion with four goals, including three game winning goals, and nine points on 12 shots. Freshman Kaitlyn Piontkowsky has three goals. In front of the net, freshman Haley Demers and senior Hannah Reamer split time evenly in goal. Each has allowed one goal with Reamer saving five shots, and Demers saving four.

Adrian Bulldogs (2-1-1)

Adrian split its two matches over the weekend, defeating Kenyon College 2-0 on Saturday and losing to Denison University 2-0 on Sunday. The Bulldogs host Siena Heights University on Wednesday, September 11 and Heidelberg University on Friday, September 13 before hosting the Spartans on Sunday night.

Junior Mya Oleksiak leads the Bulldogs with six points on one goal and four assists. Senior Caroline Fleming has a team-leading 13 shots on goal and is one of three Adrian players with two goals.

The Spartans and Bulldogs will be meeting for the first time ever on Sunday.

The Spartans have yet to concede a goal in 360 minutes of play...The team's four straight shutouts are the most to start a season since 2002...Sophomore Anika Washburn leads the UAA with 5 goals and 12 points…Senior Kimberly Chen's 14 career assists are the seventh most in program history…The Spartans' four wins are the most to start a season since the program won eight in a row to start the 2002 campaign.
