Junior defender Bailey George of the Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team has been named the University Athletic Association women's soccer defensive athlete of the week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
George led a defense that did not allow a goal in 180 minutes of action this past week as the Spartans earned wins against Hiram and Penn St.-Behrend. In Wednesday's 4-0 win over Hiram, George led a defense that only allowed three total shots throughout the game, including zero on goal. In Sunday's 3-0 win at Penn St.-Behrend, George and the Spartan defense allowed only four shots to the Lions, including only one on goal.
CWRU improved to 4-0 on the season with the victories and have not allowed a goal in the first 360 minutes of play this season. The four-straight shutouts to begin the season is the most since the 2002 season, when the Spartans opened the campaign with seven-straight shutouts.
This was George's first career UAA Athlete of the Week honor.
The Case Western Reserve women's soccer team will now return home and look to continue their shutout streak on Wednesday, September 11th for a weeknight match against Albion College (3-1). Kickoff at DiSanto Field is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
