    Case Western Reserve University sophomore midfielder Anika Washburn has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-America® Division III Women’s Soccer Second Team, based on her outstanding achievements both on the pitch and in the classroom.

    Case Western Reserve University sophomore midfielder Anika Washburn has been selected to the 2019 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III All-Great Lakes Region First Team, while junior defender Bailey George and first-year forward Merry Meyer were each named to the All-Great Lakes Region Second Team. The all-region honors are the first of each of their careers.

    In the final match of the regular season, the 21st ranked Case Western Reserve University women’s soccer team fell to No. 25 Carnegie Mellon University 3-1 at DiSanto Field on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Spartans fall to 13-5-0 on the season and 2-5-0 in the University Athletic Association. The Tartans improve to 11-5-1 and 4-3-0 in the UAA.

    Despite fighting hard for 105 minutes, the Case Western Reserve University women’s soccer team fell in double overtime to third-ranked Washington University in St. Louis 2-1 in a road University Athletic Association match. The loss drops the Spartans to 13-4-0 overall and 2-4 in the UAA, while the league leading Bears improve to 15-1-1 overall and 6-0 in the UAA.

With the win, the Spartans improve to 13-3-0 overall and 2-3-0 in the UAA. With their first loss since September 7, the Maroons fall to 11-2-2 and 3-1-1 in the UAA.

First, the team travels to Chicago, Illinois to take on the 12th-ranked University of Chicago on Friday, November 1st, with a kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m. ET.     Playing In their second consecutive double-overtime match on Tuesday night, the 16th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women’s soccer team prevailed over Chatham University 2-1 in a non-conference match in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. With the victory, the Spartans (10-1-0, 0-1-0 University Athletic Association) ensured both their first winning and double-digit win season since 2011. The Cougars drop to 4-4-3 with the loss and remain 1-0-1 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference.

    Following a heartbreaking 1-0 double overtime loss to start conference play, the 10th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women’s soccer team will play two matches this week, one non-conference and one against a University Athletic Association foe. The first match will be on Tuesday, October 8 against Chatham College in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at 7:30 p.m. Then, the Spartans will take on Brandeis University on Saturday, October 12 at 11 a.m. at Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio.
