The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team dropped a tough 2-1 decision to University Athletic Association opponent Emory University on Sunday in Atlanta, Georgia.
The loss dropped CWRU to 7-9-0 overall (0-6-0 UAA), while Emory raised its season ledger to 12-4-1 (3-2-1 UAA).
Lindsey Breskow gave the Eagles an early lead on Sunday, sending a long shot into the far corner of the goal at the 27:32 mark. It was the third goal of the season for Breskow.
Emory extended its lead in the 31st minute on Shivani Beall's ninth goal of the season. Arielle Williamson and Samantha Hilsee were each credited with assists on the score.
The Spartans tried to rally late in the second half, when freshman forward Christina Hickson sent a pass to sophomore midfielder Lizzy Barna. Barna then beat the keeper to the near post at the 87:09 mark for her third goal of the season. However, CWRU was unable to find the equalizer as the Eagles secured the victory in final two minutes of regulation.
Hickson and freshman forward Ella Copich each registered two shots on the day, with both of Hickson's shots on goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Metz played the entirety of the game, making nine saves.
Case Western Reserve will wrap-up their 2018 campaign next weekend, when the team travels to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to take on Carnegie Mellon University on Saturday, November 3rd at 3:30 p.m.
