CWRU Women’s Soccer to Host Oberlin in Non-Conference Matchup

The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team will end a five-match home stand this weekend, taking on Oberlin College at DiSanto Field for a 7:30 p.m. non-conference meeting on Friday, October 19th.

CWRU Spartans (6-7-0)

The Spartans hung tight with the top-ranked team in the country throughout the night on Friday, but a goal in each half by nationally first-ranked Washington University (Mo.) propelled the Bears past the Spartans 2-0.

CWRU fell to the 13th-ranked University of Chicago, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon. The Spartans got on the board in the 85th minute of action when junior midfielder Jennifer Markley launched a perfectly placed corner kick that curved into the bottom right corner of the goal. The score was her first of the 2018 campaign.

Oberlin Yeowomen (5-8-1)

The Yeowomen earned a 2-1 overtime victory over the College of Wooster on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Bethany Gen fired a free kick in the 93rd minute past Wooster's goalkeeper Maddy Ireton to give Oberlin the conference win. Sophomore Lucy Fredell leads the Yeowomen with four goals for eight points this season, while senior Maddi Kimball and Gen have each added four points.

Oberlin will travel to Meadville, Pennsylvania on Tuesday to face the Allegheny College Gators, before heading to Cleveland to face the Spartans on Friday.

Spartan Notes

Freshman Christina Hickson has scored a team-high six goals this season for 12 points, while junior Kimberly Chen has tallied a four goals and two assists for 10 points…Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Metz currently ranks first among all University Athletic Association players with 67 saves and fourth with a .807 save percentage…The Spartans have totaled 170 shots and 74 shots on goal this season…CWRU has held opponents to averages of 7.6 shots on goal per game, and 15.2 shots per contest.
