CWRU Women’s Soccer to Face Allegheny and NYU

The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team will begin a five-game home stand this week as they host Allegheny College at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2nd, and then welcome New York University to DiSanto Field for a 1:30 p.m. match on Saturday, October 6th.

CWRU Spartans (5-4-0, 0-1-0 UAA)

The Spartans dropped a non-conference match against Denison University, 2-1, on Tuesday night. CWRU's goal came from freshman Christina Hickson in the 59th minute after she recovered a shot by freshman Taylor Bova and struck the ball past the Denison keeper.  The score was Hickson's team-leading sixth goal of the season, while Bova was credited with her first career assist.

The Spartans opened conference play on Saturday with a 2-0 loss to 12th-ranked Brandeis University. The Judges outshot the Spartans and held the advantage in corner kicks. Five different Spartans registered a shot throughout the match.

Allegheny Gators (5-5-0, 0-1-0 NCAC)

The Gators defeated Fredonia, 2-0, on Tuesday evening as Shannon McGuinn and Taylor Renk each registered a goal. Maya Hackman tallied her third shutout of the season, making four saves. Allegheny dropped a 3-1 non-conference but to Grove City College on Saturday night. The Wolverines took a 2-0 lead after goals in the 57th and 62nd minutes of play, before McGuinn tallied her fourth goal of the season in the 71st minute to cut the deficit to 2-1. However, Grove City would add another goal in the 81st minute to secure the victory.

New York Violets (5-4-0, 1-0-0 UAA)

The Violets defeated Centenary University, 4-0, on Tuesday evening. NYU's Isabelle Turner scores two goals, while Meghan Marhan saved two shots to post her first shutout of the season. NYU then defeated 13th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University, 1-0, in the teams' UAA opener on Saturday. Ashlyn Krygowski was able to control a loose ball in the box and connect on her fourth goal of the season. That was all the Violets needed as they secured 1-0 shutout victory.

New York will host Rutgars-Newark University at Gaelic Park on Tuesday evening, before traveling to Cleveland to face the Spartans on Saturday at DiSanto Field.

Six different players have scored one or more goals for the Spartans this season…Freshman Christina Hickson has scored a team-best six goals this season, and leads the squad with 12 total points…Hickson's six goals currently rank fourth among all University Athletic Association players…Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Metz has totaled 38 saves this season which ranks first in the UAA, and has recorded .844 save percentage which ranks third…The Spartans have totaled 128 shots and 54 shots on goal through its first nine game of the 2018 campaign...CWRU has held opponents to averages of 6.0 shots on goal per game, and 12.9 shots per contest.
