The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team dropped its University Athletic Association opener to 12th-ranked Brandeis University on Saturday afternoon, falling to 2-0 to the Judges in Waltham, Massachusetts.
The Spartans fell to 5-4-0 on the year with the loss, while Brandeis raised its season record to 8-0-0.
The Judges took a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute of play on a goal by Becca Buchman, her first of the season. The score remained 1-0 until the 76th minute, when Brandeis' Katie Hayes struck for her fourth goal of the year with an assist from Lauren Mastandrea.
CWRU sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Metz made a career-high 10 saves in the loss.
The Spartans will return home to Cleveland to begin a five-match home stretch on Tuesday, October 2nd against Allegheny College at 7:30 p.m. at DiSanto Field.
