Spartans’ Offense Erupts in 3-0 Win Over Hiram

The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team scored three goals within the first 13 minutes of action on Wednesday night, as the Spartans rolled to a 3-0 win over Hiram College at DiSanto Field in Cleveland, Ohio.

The Spartans improved to 2-2-0 overall for the campaign, while the Terriors dropped to 0-5-0.

The 3-0 win marked the second time this season that the Spartans have beaten an opponent by at least three goals, with the last coming during the home opener against John Carroll on September 2nd.

Freshman forward Christina Hickson started the scoring with a goal via an assist from senior forward Melanie Kukura at the 4:16 mark.

Hickson then extended the lead with a goal at the 6:04 mark after senior midfielder Emily Dickens drilled a shot off of the cross bar that came right back to Hickson for the easy score. The goal was her second of the game and fourth of her freshman campaign.

Junior forward Kimberly Chen capped off the Spartans' scoring with her second goal of the season in the 12th of play, after she dribbled down the right side of the field and laced a shot that just got past the Hiram goalkeeper.

The Spartans outshot Hiram 23-6, while also holding an advantage in shots on goal (13-4) and corner kicks (11-2)

Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Metz started and played the first half, as she picked up the win to improve to 2-2 on the season. Junior Lauren Unterborn and freshman Jenna Ruccolo split time in the second half and combined to make four saves.

Case Western Reserve will be back in action on Saturday, September 15th, when they welcome Chatham University to DiSanto Field. The game is slated for a 1:30 p.m. start.
