CWRU Women’s Soccer Returns Home to Face Hiram & Chatham

The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team will return to DiSanto Field this week, as they prepare to host Hiram College on Wednesday, September 12th at 7:30 p.m. and then play Chatham University on Saturday, September 15th at 1:30 p.m.

CWRU Spartans (1-2-0)

The Spartans battled eighth-ranked Ohio Northern University on Saturday afternoon, but a second-half goal by the Polar Bears proved to be the difference-maker in a 1-0 loss.

Despite the loss, sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Metz made five saves in the game, matching her season high. She lowered her season goals-against average to 1.06 with the effort. Junior Ana Petropoulos and senior Melanie Kukura each registered two of the Spartans' seven total shots in the game.

Hiram Terriers (0-4-0)

The Terriers suffered two losses this past week, falling 2-1 to Heidelberg University on Wednesday, and dropping a 3-2 game to Bluffton University on Saturday.

Hiram is led offensively by freshman Kaitlyn Harris who has scored two goals for four points this season. Sophomore Courtney Wendel has also played a major role as she ranks tied for first on the squad with four points on one goal and two assists. In net, junior Ally Green has played the majority of minutes in net as she has recorded a 0-3 record with 23 saves, while senior Sam Hudson has a record of 0-1 and has made three saves this season.

Chatham Cougars (2-1-0)

The Cougars went 1-1 last week, earning a 2-1 overtime victory over Juniata College on Wednesday, but falling to Allegheny College 1-0 on Saturday. In the match against Juniata, Chatham's Julie Bruening scored the first goal in the 12th minute of regulation, while Genevieve Zeswitz registered the game winning goal off an assist from Morgan Anderson in the overtime thriller.

Chatham will play host to the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg on Tuesday, before traveling to Cleveland to face the Spartans on Saturday afternoon.

Spartan Notes

Sophomore Lauren Metz has made 13 saves and recorded a .813 save percentage in net this season…Her 13 saves currently rank second among all University Athletic Association players and Metz's .813 save percentage ranks fourth…The Spartans have totaled 32 shots and 16 shots on goal in its first three games of the 2018 campaign...CWRU has held opponents to averages of just six shots on goal per game, and 11.3 shots per contest.
