The Spartans dropped a tough 2-1 decision to Kenyon College on Friday in Gambier, Ohio. The Ladies got on the board first with a goal at the 21:55 mark. They added to their in the second half with a goal in the 58th minute. CWRU responded with a one goal in the 86th minute when freshman forward Christina Hickson scored an unassisted goal for her first collegiate goal of her career.
CWRU earned a 3-0 win over John Carroll University on Sunday afternoon. The Spartans began its scoring early with a goal in the 18th minute when sophomore midfielder Lizzy Barna received a pass from junior forward Kimberly Chen and drilled it past the keeper. CWRU struck for another goal at the 50:51 mark when Chen laced a shot into the net after she recovered the ball off of a saved shot. Less than five minutes later, the Spartans sealed the victory with a goal from Hickson via an assist from senior forward Melanie Kukura.
Ohio Northern Polar Bears
The Polar Bears opened its 2018 season with a 1-0 overtime loss to Hope College on Saturday. The Flying Dutch were able to net the game-winner with less than a minute to go in the first overtime period.
Ohio Northern dropped their game against 23rd-ranked Illinois Wesleyan 3-0 on Sunday. The Titans scored all three of its goals in the second half.
Freshman Christina Hickson currently ranks tied for second among all University Athletic Association players with two goals, while also ranking tied for third in points (4)…Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Metz ranks second with eight saves and fourth with a .800 save percentage…The Spartans have totaled 25 shots and 15 shots on goal in its first two games of the 2018 campaign…CWRU has held opponents to averages of 9.5 shots per contest, and six shots on goal per game.
