Three different Spartans scored a goal as the Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team earned a 3-0 win versus the John Carroll University Blue Streaks in their 2018 home opener.
With the win the Spartans improve to 1-1 on the season, while the Blue Streaks drop to 1-1 on the 2018 campaign.
The Spartans would hold that lead for the remainder of the first half. CWRU wasted no time after the break as they struck for another goal at the 50:51 mark when Chen laced a shot into the net after she recovered the ball off of a shot from senior forward Melanie Kukura.
Less than five minutes later, the Spartans added to their lead with a goal from freshman Christina Hickson via an assist from Kukura. The goal was Hickson's second of the season.
Overall, CWRU outshot John Carroll 13-9, including an 8-7 advantage in shots on goal. The Spartans also held the advantage in corner kicks, 6-0. Kukura led the squad with three shots, while Chen, senior midfielder Emily Dickens, freshman forward Ella Copich and Hickson each recorded two shots apiece.
Sophomore Lauren Metz started and earned her first win of the 2018 campaign. She made five saves during 75 minutes of action. Junior Lauren Unterborn played the final 15 minutes in net, as she recorded two saves.
Case Western Reserve returns to action on Saturday, September 8th as they will travel to Ada, Ohio for a 1:00 p.m. match against the eight-ranked Ohio Northern University.
