Women’s Soccer Upends Chatham behind Zadina’s Game Winning Goal

Case Western Reserve University senior midfielder Elle Zadina scored the game winning goal in the 83rd minute of play to give the Spartans a 2-1 win over Chatham University at Ellis Field on Friday night, handing Chatham their first loss of the season.

Zadina's game winner, her second goal of the game, came at the 83:41 mark of play. The senior midfielder scored the goal unassisted.

Chatham opened the scoring when Victoria Vernail scored off an assist from Megan Sieg in the 14th minute of play.

The lead would hold through the rest of the half, but the Spartans would even the score in the second frame on a 60th-minute goal from Zadina. Junior midfielder Melanie Kukura assisted on the goal.

CWRU finished the game with six shots on goal. Zadina led the squad with four shots and two shots on goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Unterborn went the distance for the Spartans in net, making seven saves.

The Spartans will be back in action on Saturday, September 2nd at 6:00 p.m., as they welcome the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford to DiSanto Field for the home-opener.
