Cheemalavagu, an All-UAA first team honoree, and Breindel, an All-UAA second team honoree, were the backbone of a Spartans' defense that yielded just 25 goals through 18 games and shutout four opponents during the season. They helped the squad hold opponents to averages of 11.8 shots per game and 5.8 shots on goal per game.
Cheemalavagu appeared in 17 games during the season, making 11 starts. She recorded a career-high three goals and one assist for seven total points throughout the season.
Breindel was one of just two Spartan players to start each of the team's 18 games during the year. She started in each of the team's 73 games throughout her four years and finishes her career as the all-time program leader in minutes played with 6,747.
CWRU ended the 2016 season with a 6-8-4 overall record.
