The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team will face a midweek matchup at Denison University on Wednesday, September 28th at 6:30 p.m., before opening its 2016 University Athletic Association schedule on Saturday, October 1st at 11:00 a.m. against No.16 New York University on DiSanto Field.

CWRU Spartans (4-2-2)
The Spartans defeated 25th-ranked Wittenberg University 2-1 on Tuesday night at DiSanto Field. CWRU's first goal came early at the 4:00 mark of the first half when junior midfielder Neha Cheemalavagu took a cross off of a corner kick from junior midfielder Elle Zadina and headed it past the keeper. The Tigers responded with a goal of its own in the 24th minute to tie the game at 1-1. Freshman forward Kimberly Chen scored the game-winning goal in the 60th minute off a put back after senior forward Amy Lindberg laced a shot at the Wittenberg goalkeeper and it deflected to Chen as she put it in the back of the net.
The Spartans battled to a 1-1 double-overtime tie with John Carroll University on Sunday. The first goal of the match came at 16:41 when Bailey Fischer connected on a shot after she received a pass from teammate Jaclyn Audino. CWRU responded when senior forward Jennifer Zajic took a shot from a corner kick and found the back of the net for her first goal of the season. Both teams would turn up the heat from there and each took turns with good looks at the net. However, the match would end in a stalemate after two overtime periods.
Denison Big Red (3-3-3)
The Big Red combined with John Carroll for four first half goals, but the two teams went scoreless over the final 62 minutes which resulted in a 2-2 draw after two overtime periods on Wednesday night. Denison's goals came from junior Allison Vilsack and senior Jacquie Graham.
The Big Red opened conference play with a 2-0 victory over Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday. Denison scored their first goal in the 33rd minute when senior Anne Denz ripped a shot from 21 yards that hit the crossbar before crossing the goal line. The second goal came from Graham at the 61:05 mark. It was her team leading sixth of the season.
New York University Violets (6-1-1)
The Violets went 2-0 this past week with wins against Ramapo College and DeSales University. NYU defeated Ramapo 3-2 on Wednesday evening as senior Lexi Clarke led the way with one goal and one assist. The Violets overcame an early deficit to defeat DeSales 4-2 on Saturday. Freshman Alex Bendict led the way with two goals.
NYU is idle this week until they travel to DiSanto Field to take on the Spartans on Saturday afternoon.
Senior forward Amy Lindberg has scored four goals this season which ranks best on the team and currently tied for fifth in the University Athletic Association…Junior goalkeeper Sarah Newcomb has totaled 31 saves this season which ranks second in the UAA…The Spartans have totaled 125 shots and 55 shots on goal through its first eight games of the 2016 campaign…CWRU has held opponents to averages of just five shots on goal per game, and 10.1 shots per contest.
