With an equalizing goal in the 44th minute, the Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 double overtime tie with John Carroll University on Sunday at Don Shula Stadium.
The Spartans are now 4-2-2 overall and the Blue Streaks are 3-3-4 on the season.
The first goal of the match came at 16:41 when Bailey Fischer connected on a shot after she received a pass from teammate Jaclyn Audino. It wasn't until the 44th minute when another significant shot occurred.
Fortunately for CWRU, that shot was when senior forward Jennifer Zajic took a shot from a corner kick and found the back of the net for her first goal of the season.
Both teams turned up the heat from there and each took turns with good looks at the net. However, the match would end in a stalemate after two overtime periods.
For the match, the Spartans held the advantage in shots, 20-10, and corner kicks, 7-2.
In net, junior Sarah Newcomb (4-2-2) went the distance and made four saves for the Spartans.
The Spartans will be back in action on Wednesday, September 28th, taking on Denison University in Granville, Ohio. The game is slated for a 6:30 p.m. ET start.
