A goal in the 79th minute was the difference as the Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team fell to cross-town rival Baldwin Wallace University, 2-1, on Wednesday evening at DiSanto Field.
The Spartans are now 3-1-1 on the season. With the win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 4-2-1.
After a scoreless first half, CWRU came out of halftime quickly to take a 1-0 lead at 46:40 as freshman forward Kimberly Chen drilled a shot past the BW goalkeeper for her second score on the season.
After sustaining the Spartans attack, the Yellow Jackets countered with a free kick goal from senior Kelly Gough in the 77th minute to tie the match at 1-1. BW's Rachel Bender then sent the game winner into the net with 10:27 remaining on the clock.
For the match, the Spartans outshot the Yellow Jackets 17-12, but BW held an 8-4 advantage in saves.
In net, junior goalkeeper Sarah Newcomb recorded four saves.
CWRU will be back in action on Saturday, when the team heads to Ada, Ohio to play Ohio Northern University for a 4:00 p.m. matchup with the Polar Bears.
