Spartans Women’s Soccer Upends Kenyon behind Kukura's Game Winning Goal

Case Western Reserve University sophomore midfielder Melanie Kukura scored the game winning goal in the 89th minute of play to give the Spartans a 2-1 win over Kenyon College at DiSanto Field on Tuesday night, handing Kenyon their second loss of the season.

Kukura's game winner, her first career goal, came at the 89:00 mark of play. The sophomore midfielder took possession from a Lady defender, and laced a shot from 25 yards out to beat the keeper in the top right corner of the goal.

Kenyon opened the scoring when senior Maggie Smith scored off of a penalty kick in the 12th minute of play.

The lead would hold through the rest of the half, but the Spartans would even the score in the second frame on a 51st-minute penalty kick goal from senior forward Amy Lindberg.

CWRU finished the game with a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal. Lindberg led the squad with four shots, while her two shots on goal were tied for a team-high with junior midfielder Elle Zadina.

Junior goalkeeper Sarah Newcomb went the distance for the Spartans in net, making one save.

The Spartans will be back in action on Saturday, September 10th at 1:30 p.m., continuing a three-match home stand against Allegheny College.
