Women’s Soccer Falls to #11 Brandeis at Home in UAA Play

A pair of goals in the first 20 minutes of play was all Brandeis University needed on Sunday afternoon, as Case Western Reserve University was unable to get its offense on track, falling to the 11th-ranked Judges 2-0 in a University Athletic Association matchup at DiSanto Field in Cleveland, Ohio.

The loss was just the third of the season for the Spartans, who dropped to 7-3-2 overall for the campaign and to 0-2-0 in UAA contests.  Brandeis improved to 11-1-1 overall with the win, including 1-1-0 UAA record.

The Judges jumped out to the quick lead, scoring in the sixth minute of play on Alec Spivack's second goal of the season.  Samanatha Schwartz, who had the assist on the play, sent a pass from the far wing to Spivack on the edge of the 18, who was able to finish with a long shot for the goal.

Brandeis added to its lead, when Lea McDaniel headed in a corner kick from Holly Szafran in the 18th minute for her sixth goal of the campaign, pushing the score to 2-0.

The Spartans began to create more chances in the second half, including one potential goal for senior Rachel Hammond that was negated due to an offside call.  However, Brandeis was able to hold on for the shutout, as the Judges finished with a 12-6 advantage in total shots, including a 7-1 edge in shots on goal.

The Spartans will continue their five-match home stand next weekend, when the team hosts University Athletic Association games against Emory University on Friday, October 16th at 5:00 p.m. and the University of Rochester on Sunday, October 18th at 11:00 a.m.
