Women’s Soccer Falls 2-0 at NYU in UAA Opener

Case Western Reserve University was unable to get its offense on track on Saturday, and New York University scored a goal in each half, as the Spartans fell to the Violets 2-0 in their opening contest of the 2015 University Athletic Association season in The Bronx, New York.

The loss dropped CWRU to 6-2-2 overall (0-1-0 UAA), while NYU raised its season ledger to 8-1-0 (1-0-0 UAA).

Melissa Menta gave the Violets an early lead on Saturday, sending in a long shot from outside of the box that bounced off the crossbar and into the goal at the 28:29 mark.  It was the third goal of the season for Menta.

NYU extended its lead in the 57th minute on Megan Carver's second goal of the season.

The Spartans tried to rally late in the game, with three of their four shots during the contest taking place in the final six minutes of play, but could not find the back of the net.

The Spartans will return to Cleveland to begin a season-long five-match home stand, starting with a non-conference matchup against Denison University, ranked eighth in Division III, on Tuesday, October 6th at 7:30 p.m.
