CWRU Women’s Soccer Claims 2-0 Win over Ohio Northern

The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team picked up its second shutout of the week, defeating Ohio Northern University 2-0 at DiSanto Field on Friday night.

The Spartans remained unbeaten for the campaign with an overall record of 4-0-2.  Ohio Northern dropped to 3-3-1 with the loss.

Case Western Reserve wasted little time getting on the board, taking advantage of a corner kick in the seventh minute of play.  Junior Amy Lindberg sent the corner kick into the six-yard box, finding junior Alexa Williams on the end of it, who was able to head it past the keeper to put CWRU up 1-0 at the 6:29 mark.  It was the second goal of the year for Williams, and the first assist of the campaign for Lindberg.

The score remained 1-0 until the 59th minute, when sophomore Elle Zadina's long pass sprung senior Makenzie Best on a breakaway.  Best was able to gain the edge on her defender, and launch a tough-angled shot into the net to increase the Spartan lead to 2-0.

Best has now scored in three-straight games for CWRU, and leads all Spartan players with three goals and six points this season.  Zadina earned her first assist of the year on the goal.

The Spartans' defense would go on to record the shutout, its fifth through six games this season.  Case Western Reserve lowered its goals-against average to 0.16, having allowed just one goal for the campaign.

CWRU's defense held to just five shots, with only two on goal, while the Spartans took 14 total shots, including six on goal.  Senior Megan Romelfanger saved both chances on goal, recording her third individual shutout of the year and improving to 3-0-2.

The Spartans will be back in action on Tuesday, September 22nd at 6:30 p.m., continuing a three-match home stand against Buffalo State.
