Spartans’ Offense Erupts in 5-0 win at Ohio Wesleyan

Five different Spartans scored on Wednesday night, as the Case Western Reserve University women's soccer rolled to a 5-0 win at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio to remain unbeaten in 2015.

The Spartans improved to 2-0-1 overall for the campaign, while the Bishops dropped to 0-2-1.

The 5-0 win marked the Spartans largest margin of victory in a game since the team defeated Olivet 7-1 on September 10, 2011.  The five goals were the most scored by CWRU in a game since the 2011 win over Olivet as well.

Meanwhile, the CWRU defense notched its third-consecutive shutout to start the 2015 season, and now has a streak of 297 minutes and 50 seconds without allowing a goal, dating back to last season.

Junior Amy Lindberg started the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 24-minute mark.  Junior Pauline Van Dijck extended the lead headed into halftime with a goal off an assist from senior Kate Dolansky in the 39th minute.

In the second half, senior Rachel Hammond increased the Spartan advantage to 3-0 win the 55th minute, scoring off an assist from junior Marley Praprost.  Junior Alexa Williams notched an unassisted goal at the 60:44 mark, and freshman Angelina Batty capped off the Spartans' scoring with her first collegiate goal in the 88th minute, after an assist from sophomore Gabrielle Scariano.

Senior goalkeeper Megan Romelfanger earned the win in goal, splitting the shutout with sophomore Sarah Newcomb, who played in net for the final 23 minutes of the clean sheet.

The Spartans will play the middle game of a three-game road swing on Saturday, September 12th at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio at 1:00 p.m.
