ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team closed out the 2014 campaign with a 2-0 loss at the University of Rochester on Saturday night at Fauver Stadium.
The Spartans finish at 8-7-3 overall and 1-5-1 in the University Athletic Association. The Yellowjackets go out on a high note at 6-8-4, 2-4-1 UAA.
CWRU outshot Rochester, 12-8, but was unable to find the net for the fifth straight match.
Both Yellowjacket goals came in the second half. Kim Stagg struck first via an assist from Sydney Melton at 59:49, while Kailee Zornow added the insurance score unassisted at 82:10.
In goal, senior keeper Abbey Smith (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) posted three saves to run her season total to 76. In just two seasons in a CWRU uniform, Smith posted 137 saves and 13 shutouts.
Offensively, sophomore forward Alexa Williams (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) led all players in the match with four shots (three on goal).
Despite the tough finish to the season, CWRU has five winning seasons in the last six years.
