Kent Earns Two Wins for Spartans on Saturday at D3 National Challenge

Case Western Reserve University junior Brian Kent earned a pin in his first match and then claimed a victory by decision on Saturday afternoon at the D3 National Challenge in Cleveland, Ohio, but it was not enough for the Spartans, who fell short in the final team score in each of the three contests.

The #3/18 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater defeated CWRU in the early match by a 49-6 score, with the Spartans going on to drop a 40-9 decision to #22/17 Millikin University, and a 44-12 match to the 13th-ranked University of Chicago to round out the day. The Spartans fell to 0-5 on the season with the losses.

In the early match against UW-Whitewater, Kent defeated Alex Oruna with a pin at the 4:33 mark in the 197-pound match. The pin was Kent's ninth of the season.

Against Millikin, the Spartans earned a pair of victories. At 133 pounds, sophomore Duncan Clayton pinned Joey Rivera in just 16 seconds, while Kent won a 10-4 decision over Millikin's Logan Hagerbaumer.

In the final dual match against Chicago, sophomore Adam Kates earned a forfeit victory in the 125-pound match, while first-year Mitchell Arch pinned the Maroons Alec Gleason at the 0:32 mark in the 149-pound match. Arch now has a team-best 12 pins on the season.

Case Western Reserve will be back in action on Wednesday, January 8th, as they welcome the Thiel College Tomcats to Horsburgh Gymnasium. Action is slated to start at 12:00 p.m.
