Three members of the Case Western Reserve University wrestling team advanced to the consolation quarterfinals of their respective weight classes at the 2019 NCAA Division III Central Regional Championships, hosted by Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana on Friday.
Alec Hoover began his day in the 133-pound bracket with a 13-8 decision over Ohio Wesleyan's James Brenneman. After a loss to Wabash's Owen Doster in the quarterfinals, Hoover came back to pick up a 12-3 major decision win over Adrian's Elijah Sanchez. Alec Hoover is now scheduled to face John Carroll's Spencer Dusi tomorrow at 10:00 a.m.
Collier opened his day in the 165-pound bracket with a pin in 2:33 versus Alma's Erik Arnegard. After a loss to Olivet's Tyler Grimsley in the quarterfinals, Collier came back to earn a 3-2 decision over Ohio Northern's Jordan Hardrick. He will now get ready to face Muksingum's Tanner Walker in the consolation quarterfinals.
Dersh-Fisher began his day in the 197-pound bracket with a loss to Mount Union's Landon Talbert. However, he bounced back to earn a 2-0 decision over Adrian's Zach Reynolds and then picked up a pin in 1:54 over Thomas More's James Caniglia. Dersh-Fisher is now slated to match up against Alma's Austin Fox tomorrow in the consolation quarterfinals.
Frisch earned a 13-6 decision over Thomas More's Gavin Foushee and also picked up a 14-1 major decision victory over Ohio Northern's Cameron Poulton. McNamara earned a pin in 3:30 over John Carroll's Josh Stasek.
After one day of competition, CWRU wrestlers have totaled 22.5 team points.
Case Western Reserve will return to the mats tomorrow as they conclude competition at the 2019 NCAA Division III Central Regional Championships. Action is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. in the Knowling Fieldhouse on the campus of Wabash College.
