Select members of the Case Western Reserve University wrestling team competed at the JCU Open on Sunday in the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center on the John Carroll University campus.
Freshmen 184-pounder Cade Lueker headlined the Spartans performances by recording a fourth-place finish in his weight class.
Lueker began the open with pin over Gannon's Luigi Yates in 48 seconds. He then won a 13-8 decision over Baldwin Wallace 's Dominic Shelly to advance to the third place match of the draw. However, Lueker dropped a 16-0 technical fall to Yates to finish fourth in the 184-pound bracket.
Freshman 133-pounder Duncan Clayton eared a win by decision (9-6) over Lake Erie's Jordan Brewster in the quarterfinals of the 133-pound Gold bracket. He fell to West Virginia's Lucas Seibert in the semifinals and then ended his day by forfeiting to Trevor Dusty of Grand Valley State University.
In addition, freshman 165-pounder Kyle Roberts went 1-2 in the 165 Blue bracket.
After a week off from competition, the Spartans will return to action at the 2019 NCAA Division III Central Regionals, hosted by Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana on Friday, February 22nd and Saturday, February 23rd.
