Junior Isaac Collier of the Case Western Reserve University wrestling finished in fourth-place in the 165-pound weight class, as the Spartans placed 16th out of 22 teams competing at the Spartan Mat Classic, hosted by Manchester University in North Manchester, Indiana on Saturday.
Collier opened the day with a 17-1 technical fall victory over Bellarmine's Josh Craig. He then pinned University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh's Tony Kontney in 2:11 during the quarterfinals of the draw. Collier dropped his semifinals match, as Wabash's Kyle Hatch defeated him with a 4-1 decision. In the third-place match of the draw, Collier lost by forfeit to Wabash's Daylan Schurg.
The Spartans also had three wrestlers pick up two or more wins on the day in their respective weight classes.
Senior Brian McNamara posted a 3-2 record in the 285-pound weight class. He opened the day with a pin over Indiana Tech's Ed Valdez in 1:44. After falling in his next match, McNamara earned a 3-1 decision over Ohio Wesleyan's Nicholas Azusenis and a 2-0 decision over Trine's Jacob Garrett.
Junior Andrew Hoover picked up two wins in the 141 weight class, while freshman Adam Kates earned two victories in the 125 weight class. Included in Andrew Hoover's victories was a pin in 3:57 over Defiance's Raymier Hickerson and Kates recorded a pin in 52 seconds over Mt. St. Joseph's Oskar Flowers.
CWRU wrestlers combined to score 30.0 points during the tournament to finish 16th.
The Spartans will be in action on Thursday, January 17th, when the team travels to Adrian, Michigan to face Adrian College in a dual meet. Action at the meet is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
