CWRU Wrestling Heads to Wheaton, Ill. for Pete Willson Invite

The Case Western Reserve University wrestling team will look to build on the momentum of its three dual match wins last week, when the squad travels to Wheaton, Illinois for the Pete Willson Invitational, hosted by Wheaton College on Friday, January 26th and Saturday, January 27th.

Action is slated to begin at 12:00 p.m. ET on Friday, and continue throughout the day, with action resuming on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. ET. The Championship matches on Saturday, scheduled to start at approximately at 1:45 p.m. ET, will be webcasted at https://livestream.com/wheatonthunder.

The field for the Pete Willson Invitational is slated to be a strong one, including sixth-ranked Baldwin Wallace, eighth-ranked UW-Whitewater, ninth-ranked Mount Union, 10th-ranked Messiah, 11th-ranked UW-LaCrosse, 12th-ranked Olivet, 13th-ranked North Central (Ill.), 23rd-ranked University of Chicago and 25th-ranked UW-Platteville. Other schools scheduled to attend include Adrian, Alma, Augustana, Buena Vista, Concordia University (Wis.), Elizabethtown, Elmhurst, Ferrum, Greensboro, Heidelberg, John Carroll, Lakeland, Manchester, MacMurray, Millikin, Mount St. Joseph, MSOE, Muskingum, Nebraska Wesleyan, Ohio Northern, Otterbein, Pacific, Thomas More, Trine, UW-Eau Claire, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Stevens Point and Wheaton.

The Spartans will be looking to maintain momentum, following a 3-1 dual meet record this past week. In addition, sophomore 141-pounder Andrew Hoover was named the University Athletic Association Wrestler of the Week. Hoover posted a perfect 4-0 record throughout the four dual matches, including two pins and one technical fall. For the season, Hoover leads the team with 16 wins (16-8 overall) and has totaled five pins and one technical fall.

Six wrestlers are currently scheduled to compete for the Spartans, including freshman Anand Shah (125 pounds), sophomore Alec Hoover (133 pounds), Andrew Hoover (141 pounds), sophomore Andrew Munn (157 pounds), senior Nick Tommas (174 pounds) and junior Brian McNamara (285 pounds).

Results of the meet will be posted to athletics.case.edu after each day of competition, with a full release after the conclusion of competition on Saturday.
