Spartan Wrestling Ends Season at NCAA Regionals

The Case Western Reserve University wrestling teams 2016-17 season came to an end on Saturday at the 2017 NCAA Division III Mideast Championships, hosted by York College in York, Pennsylvania.

While the Spartans failed to advance in any of the championship brackets on Saturday, four CWRU wrestlers picked up wins in the consolation draws. In the 197-pound bracket, sophomore Gavin Dersh-Fisher earned a victory by pin at the 1:03 mark over Washington and Jefferson's William Oberschelp.

At 149 pounds, freshman Isaac Collier bested RIT's Evan Vershay by pin at the 4:40 mark. Junior Connor Gordon also earned a win by pin, 4:50, over Keystone's TJ Pashinski in the consolation of the 165-pound draw.

Freshman Alec Hoover rounded out the list of winners for the Spartans with a 6-4 win over Mount Union's Nate Kirk in the 133-pound draw.

The Spartans ended the first day of competition in 18th place in the team standings with 9.5 points.
