Select members of the Case Western Reserve University wrestling team competed at the 2016 Ohio Intercollegiate Open on Sunday in the Veale Field House on the CWRU campus.
With the majority of the field at the open consisting of NCAA Division I and II wrestlers, the Spartans had six of their 11 wrestlers place within the top six throughout the tournament.
Sophomore Gavin Dersh-Fisher placed fourth in the Open 197 weight class with a record of 2-2. He won by fall (6:40) against Kent State's AJ Jones and won in sudden victory (6-4) over CWRU sophomore Chris Zhang.
Junior Connor Gordon finished fourth in the Open 165 weight class with a record of 1-2. He won by fall (4:17) over Austin Marsico of the Ohio State Wrestling Club.
Freshman Alec Hoover placed fourth in the Freshman/Sophomore 133 weight class with a record of 2-2. He won by fall (3:15) against Mott College's Jeremy Thompson and technical fall against Niagara Community College's Charles Labelle (16-0).
Freshman Isaac Collier finished fourth in the Freshman/Sophomore 149 weight class with a record of 2-2. He claimed an 8-4 decision against Mott's Todd Nublin and a 2-0 decision against Adam Kirresh.
Freshman Michael Petersen placed fifth in the Freshman/Sophomore 149 weight class with a record of 3-1. He won by fall (0:58) against Ashland's Max Kuchenrither, fall (0:26) against Mott College's Todd Nublin and fall (0:35) against Adam Kirresh.
Junior Nick Tommas finished sixth in the Open 174 weight class with a record of 1-2. He claimed a 3-2 decision against West Virginia University's Tucker Leavitt.
Case Western Reserve is back in action on Saturday, November 19th when they travel to Findlay, Ohio for the Findlay Open.
