Collier to battle at 51st All-Star Classic in Cleveland

Case Western Reserve University freshman wrestler Isaac Collier was selected to compete in the showcase matches at the 51st annual National Wrestling Coaches' Association All-Star Classic on November 5th at Cleveland State University's Wolstein Center.

The event has served as the major kick-off event for the wrestling season since becoming an early-season event. In 2012, the event moved to the first weekend of the major college wrestling calendar and has been a fixture ever since.

Collier, a graduate of nearby St. Edward High School in Lakewood, is in his first year at Case Western Reserve. A team captain during his senior year, Collier was a 2016 Ohio State qualifier at St. Edward, one of the top high school wrestling programs in the nation.

"Arguably this is collegiate wrestling's biggest stage outside of the NCAA Championships," said Head Coach Danny Song. "Simply stated, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and it is a tremendous platform to compete and represent CWRU. Additionally, our program is locked in to support and volunteer for the event which takes at Cleveland State University's Wolstein Center."

Collier will be taking on Notre Dame College's Cobey Fehr at 149 pounds in the showcase matches that start at 6:00 p.m.

Song and the 2016 Spartan wrestling team will be volunteering at the Rudis Youth Wrestling Clinic which will be from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the day of the Classic. The wrestling clinic will be facilitated by an All-Star collection of former Olympians, NCAA champions and All-Americans including Kyle Snyder, Cary Kolat, and Jeff Jordan. The clinic is designed for youth of all ages – up to graduating high school seniors.
